| African Masks Calendar, Wall, Pomegranate
The Brooklyn Museum's African collections are extraordinary both in the breadth of their sub-Saharan holdings and in the quality of their constituent pieces. This year's edition of African Masks features twelve fantastic and beautifully executed nineteenth- and twentieth-century ceremonial masks from Sierra Leone, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Liberia, and Gabon, crafted of painted wood, copper, shells, beads, and cordage and intended for initiations, masquerades, and secret-society ceremonies. This 2006 Wall calendar was published by Pomegranate.
